I thought that I’d give a short review and share photos of the new book by Michael and Denise Okuda, Star Trek: The Next Generation :- On Board The USS Enterprise D.

The first thing I noticed was how thin the book was. It’s about the same thickness as a kid’s annual, around 40 pages. I owned the Technical Manual in the 90′s and that was like a phone book! I was a bit disappointed.

The layout is quite similar to the Star Trek Fact Files, with foldout sections. It has brief descriptions of the various parts of the ships such as the Bridge and Main Engineering. It also has brief biographies of the TNG crew.

I’ve included some photos of the layout, so you can see the pretty pictures!

The book doesn’t go into too much detail as the Technical Manual did. It’s reads more like a beginners guide to TNG for the kids watching the HD versions of the episodes on Syfy or on Blu Ray.

It comes with a CD Rom which I like to talk about, but I can’t as I have just found out that mine is missing! I’ll have to have a word with Amazon!

Anyway, it was a bit disappointing to find that it was a bit lacking in substance and was just a glorified picture book. It looks like it would be a good book to give to a child who was new to TNG. But, if you’re looking for a book with a bit more to read, get the Star Trek: The Next Generation 365. It has pictures and plenty to read.
