Our Thoughts: This story introduces us to the threat of the Borg / Cybermen while introducing the reader to the mysterious Doctor. Some wonderful images of Starfleet vessels, ancient Egypt and the Tiptons have the Doctor down to a tee with the way his character is portrayed. We could not fault either the story or art and the HoloDeck has its first ten out of ten score.

The Final Verdict: Overall, a great introduction with amazing art.

IDW – Star Trek / Doctor Who Assimilation Squared

Details: Publisher: IDW June 2012

Writer: Scott & David Tipton with Tony Lee
Artist: J.K. Woodward
Letterer: Shawn Lee
Cover artist: J.K. Woodward
Editor: Denton J. Tipton

Our Thoughts: This time we focus on the TNG crew and we get to see a nice self contained story. The art is amazing with the likenesses of the TNG crew incredibly life like. The Tiptons again know their Star Trek and this is great to see. The meeting of the TNG crew and the Doctor is written and drawn brilliantly while the threat from Borg / Cybermen still looms. strong>

The Final Verdict: Overall, the art continues to amaze while the story is building up nicely.

TNG_Who_issue_3_cover_AIssue 6: IDW Star Trek / Doctor Who Assimilation Squared #3

IDW – Star Trek / Doctor Who Assimilation Squared

Details: Publisher: IDW July 2012

Writer: Scott & David Tipton with Tony Lee
Artist: J.K. Woodward & The Sharp Brothers
Letterer: Shawn Lee
Cover artist: J.K. Woodward
Editor: Denton J. Tipton

Our Thoughts: No matter what you do you just can’t get away from Captain James T. Kirk! This is a great story within a story, with us seeing the Fourth Doctor encounter the TOS crew while fighting off the Cybermen. Great writing. While we appreciated the difference in art for the flashback we felt that at times it was not as great as previous issues. strong>

The Final Verdict: Overall, the story is moving along at a great pace but this issue we felt the art was inconsistent but still very good.

TNG_Who_issue_4_cover_AIssue 6: IDW Star Trek / Doctor Who Assimilation Squared #4

IDW – Star Trek / Doctor Who Assimilation Squared

Details: Publisher: IDW August 2012

Writer: Scott & David Tipton with Tony Lee
Pencils: Gordon Purcell
Colours: J.K. Woodward
Letterer: Shawn Lee
Cover artist: J.K. Woodward
Editor: Denton J. Tipton

Our Thoughts: With introductions over it’s time to find out what the Borg / Cybermen are planning. We see some great interactions between the Doctor & Guinan while we see Captain Picard haunted by the ghost of Locutus. The Tiptons are in full swing now as the story is at break neck speed. While the art is very good we did notice the difference from J.K. Woodward’s work. This however, does not detract from the story. strong>

The Final Verdict: Overall, at the half way point we are impressed where the story is taking us and the art overall is very good.
