Welcome to Issue 12 of the Holodeck. This week Sina and Michael are joined by regular follower of the show Captain Hot Dogg aka Dave. This week Sina, Michael and Dave continue the IDW ongoing Star Trek comic review by looking at “The Truth About Tribbles”.

In this retelling of the classic original episode “The Trouble With Tribbles” we discover that Scotty is still trying to find Admiral Archers dog, some great interactions between the crew and again we find that Starfleet Command is acting very odd. Are these clues leading to Into Darkness?

Our Thoughts: This was a great retelling of the original story. We enjoyed the mystery around the Klingons, Kirk’s humour, the interactions between Scotty & Chekov. We also enjoyed the various links to the 2009 film. This was a new art style for the series and while we were concerned with some of the main character likenesses we felt that the backgrounds were amazing. The solar lens on the bridge were captured brilliantly while the alien planet was beautiful.

The Final Verdict: Overall, although this is a retelling of the classic episode it manages to stand on its own in terms of story but the art only ever so slightly lets it down.

Our Thoughts: The story moves along at a great pace with some wonderful dialogue. We enjoyed the humour in this story and the way the characters develop. The mystery moves on with Starfleet Intelligence and the need that some people have to ensure Pike controls Kirk. We found the artwork consistent with some good likenesses while the backgrounds remain stunning including the scenes from the briefing view (excluding the desk).

The Final Verdict: Overall, although this is a retelling of the classic episode it manages to stand on its own in terms of story and the art remains consistent.
