Star Trek: The Next Generation writer and producer Maurice Hurley passed away on February 24. Maurice was 75 years old. Rick Berman confirmed his passing with this tweet.

When writing “Q Who”, Maurice created the Borg. He introduced Lore and the Romulans into TNG. He also helped voice the Borg in “Q Who”.

He served as Co-Executive Producer for TNG in season 2, which also saw Gates McFadden depart the series. She returned for season three after he left following season two.

Maurice returned twice more to write “Galaxy’s Child” in season 4 and “Power Play” in season 5.
