In an interview with MTV, Simon Pegg spoke about writing Idris Elba a “kickass role” in the upcoming third Star Trek film.
“Idris is an extraordinary actor and we’re trying to write him a kickass role,” Pegg said. “This is the five year mission, we’re out there. We don’t need to keep bumping into the same five people. It’s a massive universe!”
Simon Pegg is currently writing the next film with Doug Jung
“It’s an incredible show when you watch it — how little they had,” Pegg said. “We think of ’Star Trek’ as this huge thing, but it started out as these thoughtful plays with small sets… dealing with incredibly human and intellectual ideas.”
“We can certainly invest in the spirit of the show and get back to the essence of what it is,” he added. “We’re hoping to make a ’Star Trek’ for today that doesn’t forget where it came from.”
Star Trek 3 is due to start filming in June.
